Infiltrating the Kusaka River New Underground Discharge Channel.
See and experience the history of floods and flood control technology.

The new discharge channel, through which start to flow the water in June 2023.

Your guide will lead you through the drainage tunnel, which is normally off-limits to the public, and you will get a feel for the imposing size of the enormous structure up close while watching images projected directly into the tunnel, experiencing the history of the fight against flooding and flood control.

Due to the structure of the Shin-Kusakagawa spillway, water accumulates in the latter half of the tunnel.
We put on waders (boots that reach up to the waist) and dive into the water up to knee-deep!
We also explore creatures that survive in the dark!

The tunnel is just over 5km long, and there is a maintenance road on the exit side in the neighboring town of Ino, so it is possible to return to the surface alive. This is a hard activity where you cruise about 2km to the tunnel exit maintenance road on your own.

Plans for educational tour (Japanese only)

We can host educational trips for learning about the SDGs for two half-day classes, combining a tour of the spillway, learning about the ecosystem at the Kusaka River Regulating Area, and a canoe plan.
