The trailhead near Hidaka Village General Athletic Park is a 20-minute walk from JR Okahana Station, and it takes just under an hour from the trailhead to the summit if you don't make any detours.
The triangulation point indicated as 247.4m is located on the right hand side, about 300m south from the summit, and the summit of Mt. Otaki seems to be a little lower than this triangulation point.
There are many huge and strangely shaped rocks near the summit, including places that are the origins of folk tales such as the Womb Passage, Kintaro's Power Rock, and Yamauba Cave.
Gokokuji Temple, located at the foot of the mountain, is of the Honzan Shugen sect, and it is said that there used to be an inner sanctuary at the summit which was a training ground for Shugendo sect practitioners.
Even today, over 30 small, moss-covered stone Buddha statues are scattered throughout the area, adding a charm to the tranquility of this secluded sacred mountain.
